Technical Project Manager in Infrastructure

Yandex has a vast number of services accessed by users and services that interact with each other. One of the key elements of the infrastructure in this interaction is load balancers.

Our team is responsible for the operation and development of load balancers, optimizing their load, improving load balancing algorithms, as well as monitoring them and controlling the health of services behind them. Terabits of traffic pass through our load balancers, making them a critical infrastructure component and an interesting development challenge.

In addition to the load balancers themselves, we make their management simpler and more transparent for the user. So that creating your own virtual service and connecting instances of your service to it is easy and transparent. Additionally, we are integrated with other services of Yandex's internal cloud to improve developers' UX when working with the infrastructure.

What tasks await you

Developing new features Routing all traffic through the load balancer is a bottleneck under high loads. We have decided to work out the possibility of passing most of the traffic directly from the source to the destination, using the load balancer only to initiate the connection. We need to scale this solution to all company services.

Simplifying support and usage We want to continue improving our load balancer management system, we want to work on its refactoring and improving UX for external users, as well as for the convenience of service operation and problem resolution.

We expect that you

• Have a technical background, have managed projects and can lead a team from idea to implementation
• Have worked with infrastructure and infrastructure development
• Know how to manage technical debt, incorporate it into development plans for the direction, and justify the need for task execution
• Know how network infrastructure works, understand the architecture of modern services and applications, can automate work using scripts, are able to read code within your area of responsibility
• Understand the specifics of load balancer operation and the problems of high-load services

It will be a plus

• Have worked with Linux, have a good understanding of the networking stack
• Write and read code in Python or Golang
