Technical Manager for Infrastructure Cloud Development at Yandex Infrastructure

We are developing an infrastructure (internal) container cloud, where services created by thousands of Yandex developers are hosted. The internal cloud manages over 100 thousand servers and runs over 50 thousand applications — totaling over one million containers.

Our cloud has millions of cores, running not only large-scale consumers like Search or Advertising, but also microservices, whose number is measured in tens of thousands.

Such volumes present us with unique challenges: not only in terms of the cloud infrastructure's architecture, but also in terms of processes and tools for managing resources.

We are looking for a Technical Manager with solid engineering experience to join our team, who can effectively engage in the operational work and development of the infrastructure cloud: from handling resource requests and allocation to improving the cloud's own infrastructure.

What tasks await you

Participation in and improvement of resource request and allocation processes Yandex services are actively growing, and maintaining this growth requires a regular influx of new resources. To ensure resource growth, there are special processes for requesting resources and their subsequent redistribution, involving not only consumer services but also representatives of resource providers.

Implementation of resource usage optimization processes and improvement of tools A key focus for our team is the efficiency of resource usage by our consumers. To improve it, we are developing special tools that help users assess resource usage efficiency and work purposefully on its improvement. Together with service teams, we develop and implement processes for resource optimization.

Participation in integration projects together with development, operations, and testing teams The internal cloud exists in close integration with other internal resource providers and regularly undertakes joint projects: from onboarding new large services or providers into the cloud to launching new data centers. Participation in such projects allows one to get acquainted with a large number of services and technologies existing within Yandex.

Implementation of technical projects within the infrastructure cloud We continue to develop our cloud by implementing new technologies aimed at improving user experience, increasing reliability, and efficiency. Participation in such projects provides an opportunity not only to gain unique technical experience but also to directly influence how users will perceive our cloud.

We expect you to

• Have worked on technological projects in the role of a project or product manager
• Have a strong technical background and can communicate with the development team on the same level, ideally with development experience
• Know how to build processes and interaction between teams
• Are capable of setting priorities and meeting deadlines
• Know how to manage discussions and record outcomes
• Express thoughts precisely and clearly, both orally and in writing
• Can quickly dive into new areas and are not afraid of technical difficulties
• Understand how server hardware for high-load systems works
• Are willing to immerse yourself in the topic of managing server resources and planning their consumption

• Have solved tasks related to server resource consumption planning (capacity planning)
• Write in Python or any other programming language
