Remote work
We are Rooh Co., a dynamic team creating mobile and web applications in the Lifestyle, Health, and Utilities niches. Our products help users solve everyday tasks, inspire them, and simplify their lives.
We operate in the global market with a focus on the USA and develop subscription-based B2C products with a high volume of payments.
We are now looking for a Senior/Lead Payments Manager to take ownership of developing our billing and payment infrastructure: from routing and retry logic to improving Authorization Rate, Recovery Rate, and the overall stability of the payment system.
We already have an Engineering Payments team and an analyst – you will lead their work from the Payments side and together build a system around key payment metrics. The Payments direction is currently in a stable phase: we will continue to develop processes, monitoring, and priorities, and will strengthen the team as the scope grows.
What will you be doing?
1. Managing Payments Infrastructure
- Own the full payment cycle – from Checkout to recurring payments, Retries, and Recovery.
- Design and optimize Retry logic: intervals, amounts, sequence of attempts, and routing based on decline codes.
- Manage multi-PSP architecture and develop Routing logic.
- Develop payment methods, integrations, and technologies: local payment methods, network tokenization, account updater, and other tools to increase payment success.
- Analyze reasons for declines, independently test scenarios, and verify hypotheses with data before assigning tasks to development.
- Collaborate with development to define and prioritize changes in the Payments infrastructure.
2. Analyzing Payment Data and Improving Key Metrics
- Track and improve Authorization Rate, Recovery Rate, and Chargeback Ratio across banks, countries, PSPs, and payment methods.
- Identify points of loss: which decline codes are dominant, where retries, routing, or other elements of the payment flow are inefficient.
- Formulate hypotheses for improving payment logic and evaluate their potential financial impact.
- Together with the analyst, measure the results of implemented changes and experiments.
- Define key payment metrics, thresholds, and alerts for timely detection of deviations.
- Identify revenue leakage points and translate them into specific solutions and experiments.
3. Developing and Implementing Billing Strategy
- Develop the subscription payment flow: trials, subscriptions, recurring payments, failed payment recovery, and reactivation.
- Formulate and launch hypotheses regarding payment timing, amounts, retry scenarios, routing, and other parameters.
- Participate in developing upsell, reactivation, and offer mechanics for failed payments.
- Collaborate with Product, Marketing, and Analytics to find opportunities for growing collected revenue, retention, and LTV.
- Research new PSPs, payment methods, and technologies, and assess their potential business impact.
- Formulate the roadmap for the Payments direction and prioritize initiatives based on their financial impact.
4. Managing Payment Risks and Interacting with PSPs
- Monitor VAMP ratio, Fraud, and Chargeback ratio and take timely measures before critical or penalty thresholds are reached.
- Understand the requirements of Visa, Mastercard, and other payment systems and consider them when developing the payment system.
- Communicate with PSPs, including Adyen, Stripe, and other providers: new features, approval rates, decline reasons, compliance requests, and escalations.
- Evaluate the performance of payment providers and initiate changes if necessary.
- Assist Finance and other teams in understanding payment data and provide necessary context on transactions and PSPs.
First 3 Months
- Understand the architecture of the current Payments system, PSPs, monitoring system, and alerts.
- Implement the first growth points for Authorization Rate and Recovery Rate with measurable financial impact.
- Take ownership of key payment metrics: Authorization Rate, Recovery Rate, Chargeback Ratio, and revenue loss/churn due to failed payments.
- By the end of the third month, propose a roadmap and architecture for the further development of the Payments direction.
- Expected results by the end of 3 months: improved metrics that provide monetary growth and reduce risks/negativity.
What we expect from you?
- Deep understanding of the payment ecosystem: know how recurring payments work and how they differ from one-time payments, understand decline codes, retries, routing, and cascading.
- Practical experience working with PSPs like Adyen, Stripe, Checkout, PayPal, or similar providers.
- Understanding of the principles behind 3DS, network tokenization, account updater, and other tools to increase authorization rate.
- Familiarity with the rules and requirements of Visa and Mastercard payment systems.
- Confident work with payment data: ability to independently analyze transactional metrics, identify problems, formulate hypotheses, and evaluate results.
- Willingness to work hands-on – with data and provider consoles, not just by assigning tasks to the team.
- Actively use AI tools in daily work and be able to demonstrate how you use them to accelerate research, analysis, or operational processes.
- Product mindset with a focus on money – think in terms of revenue, losses, and financial impact, not just tasks and features.
- Independence and a high level of ownership – ability to identify problems, propose solutions, make decisions within your area of responsibility, and bring them to fruition.
- Ability to effectively interact with technical and non-technical teams.
It would be great if:
- You have experience working in a subscription / recurring payments business with a high transaction volume.
- You have worked directly with Adyen or Stripe at the product and payment infrastructure level.
- You have experience building or developing a multi-PSP architecture.
- You have already solved problems related to improving Authorization Rate or Recovery Rate and can share specific results.
- You have practical cases of reducing chargeback rate, fraud, or VAMP ratio.
- You have experience working with international markets, especially the USA.
What we offer?
- Flexibility – remote work with a flexible schedule. The result is what matters, not the location.
- High level of influence – your decisions directly impact the payment infrastructure and financial performance of the products.
- Ownership of the direction – the opportunity to make independent decisions and build Payments as a separate function, and as we grow, to strengthen the team for the required scope.
- Energetic and supportive environment – a team that values initiative and helps bring ideas to fruition.
- 15 business days of vacation and 4 Sick Days – time for rest and recharge.
- Transparent processes – minimal bureaucracy, maximum opportunities.
- Modern stack and AI-first approach – we use modern tools and automation to move faster.
- Formalization – contract with a foreign company (Europe), through an individual entrepreneur or incubators for other countries.
