MatyPet, a pet product brand, is seeking an Operations Director.
About the position:
The Operations Director is a key executive responsible for the operational management of the pet product business (MatyPet brand) and e-commerce (Curaline e-commerce platform), ensuring sustainable business growth. They are looking for a leader with a deep understanding of the Russian market, sharp commercial acumen, and outstanding management skills to create a leading pet product brand in Russian e-commerce.
Key Responsibilities:
Managing the pet product business (MatyPet brand):
- Full responsibility for the development and growth of the MatyPet brand in the Russian market
- Product strategy development: assortment, pricing, new product launch schedule
- Building and optimizing the local supply chain and delivery system
- Brand promotion and marketing, increasing brand awareness and repeat purchases
- Sales management through own e-commerce channels (independent website, Curaline platform), controlling customer base and profitability
- Developing offline partnerships and engagement models with loyal customers
Managing the e-commerce platform (Curaline):
- Comprehensive management of Curaline platform operations
- Developing the platform's growth strategy based on a deep understanding of the Russian consumer
- Optimizing user experience and conversion, creating a competitive proprietary e-commerce platform
- Building a traffic acquisition system: SEO, social media, content marketing, performance advertising
- Assortment management: category planning, seller acquisition, product management
- Monitoring key metrics: GMV, number of orders, average check, repeat purchases, lead cost
Building and managing the team:
- Forming teams for the MatyPet business and e-commerce, recruiting and developing key local specialists
- Direct management of operations, procurement, warehouse, customer service, and marketing departments
- Creating a system of goals and KPIs, ensuring effective team performance
- Building a high-performing e-commerce team with local expertise
Business development and strategic partnerships:
- Utilizing local resources and industry connections to develop partnerships with suppliers, distributors, and market players
- Analyzing trends in the Russian pet product and e-commerce markets, identifying growth opportunities
- Coordinating resources of the Chinese supply chain, leveraging the advantages of cross-border logistics
- Representing the company in strategic negotiations and participating in key partnership projects
Requirements:
- Overall work experience of 5+ years, including at least 2 years in top management or CEO positions in e-commerce or retail
- Practical experience in building a business from scratch or rapid scaling
- Experience in the pet product industry or FMCG segment
- Developed commercial acumen and ability to quickly identify market opportunities
- Strong management skills and experience in full-cycle e-commerce operations
- Fluent English language – mandatory
- Experience in traffic acquisition and customer engagement in proprietary e-commerce channels
- Data-driven decision-making, analytical approach to identifying problems and opportunities
- Outstanding leadership qualities, ability to build and motivate high-performing teams
- Results-oriented, execution-driven
Preferred Background and Qualifications:
- Experience with leading e-commerce platforms (Ozon, Wildberries) – understanding the logic of e-commerce operations
- Experience with Russian e-commerce projects (Petshop.ru, Samokat, Vprok, Lamoda, etc.)
- Experience with independent websites or DTC brands
- Operational management in international retail/e-commerce companies in Russia
- Experience working with Chinese companies or the Chinese supply chain
