Head of Development group (Basic Services) | VK

We are working on the largest content platform in the Russian internet — in terms of volume, formats, consumption time, and audience. Millions of RPS and petabytes of data are the main challenges for VKontakte's backend. Core Backend is the product infrastructure layer that lies at the foundation and allows various teams to move forward without solving the same problems.

We are looking for a Head of Development for Basic Services who wants to solve complex problems and directly influence VKontakte's architecture.

Tasks

• Design and implementation of new Go services for monolith decomposition
• Optimization of load and resource consumption of existing services
• Transition to modern open-source databases
• Improving the reliability of VKontakte

Examples of specific tasks in progress:

• Statistics service for authors. A single entry point for working with statistics. Processes about a million events per second related to content interaction and displays it in authors' personal accounts in near real-time
• Likes and reactions. A unified service for setting likes and reactions for any entities. Archive of a trillion likes, millions of reads, and thousands of writes per second
• Comments. A unified service for working with comments to any entities — posts/videos/clips. Unified and customizable logic for easy integration into any product

Requirements

• Solid knowledge of Go
• Experience with high-load services and designing fault-tolerant solutions
• Experience with several popular open-source solutions: PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, ClickHouse, Kafka, or equivalents
• Experience managing a development team for at least a year
• Experience in establishing development processes
