In Yandex, we are looking for a Head of Business Development (Alice and Smart Devices).
YaOS is an operating system for smart TVs, installed on over 5 million devices in Russia. It is among the top three largest Smart TV platforms in the Russian Federation, alongside Samsung Tizen and LG webOS. At the same time, it is an independent OS and is open to partnerships and new monetization models.
Your task is to manage YaOS as a business. You will be responsible for three key areas:
- Install the OS on new devices and work to increase market share, negotiate with manufacturers;
- Engage in monetization: work with advertising inventory, applications, subscriptions, search for new revenue streams;
- Collaborate with the product and development team to enhance the OS functionality.
What tasks await you:
- Scaling YaOS distribution: you will be responsible for increasing YaOS's market share among new Smart TVs in the Russian Federation and CIS countries, conduct C-level negotiations with top management of Chinese, Russian, and international TV manufacturers, form conditions for OS pre-installation, licensing and partnership agreements, as well as analyze the competitive landscape (Tizen, webOS, Google TV) and propose tactics for market share growth.
- Advertising monetization management: together with the sales team, you will define the sales strategy for YaOS advertising inventory, engage in business development, pricing, and go-to-market. You will control and improve the unit economics of the advertising business (eCPM, fill rate, LTV of inventory), develop the CTV business, new advertising formats, and partnerships with ad networks.
- App Store development: you will be responsible for developing the App Store within YaOS: monitor the quantity and quality of applications, create conditions for developers, determine commissions. You will need to enter into strategic partnerships with major content providers (online cinemas, TV, gaming services), search for and launch new OS monetization points: premium subscriptions, white-label solutions for manufacturers, additional software, integrations with telecom operators.
- Strategic modeling: you will build financial and economic models: P&L forecasts, break-even, ROI of new initiatives, as well as develop go-to-market strategies for new OS versions, advertising formats, or partnerships.
- Budget and team management: you will participate in the formation and control of the business unit's budget (marketing, development, partnership expenses), and in the future, form and develop a team: analysts, partnership managers, product marketers.
Requirements:
- More than six years of managing a business unit related to software distribution, platform monetization, advertising sales, or partnership integrations.
- Successfully conducted C-level negotiations with major international partners: equipment manufacturers, content providers, advertising holdings.
- Excellent knowledge of the Smart TV OS market: Tizen, webOS, Google TV, and others, their business models, strengths, and weaknesses.
- Understanding of the Connected TV (CTV) advertising ecosystem, video advertising, and programmatic.
- Familiarity with the Smart TV application market (LGE, Samsung, Android TV) and their distribution models.
- Ability to build financial and economic models for unit economics: P&L, LTV, CAC, ROI, profitability.
- Knowledge of the product flow — from hypothesis to release, ability to provide feedback and requirements to the product team.
- English language proficiency at Upper-Intermediate or Advanced level for conducting international negotiations, contracts, and presentations.
- Possess systematic and strategic thinking, able to balance profitability and market share growth.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams (development, sales, marketing), skilled in persuasion and negotiation in complex, conflict situations.
